Car Catches Fire Inside Home's Garage on Stuart Court (PHOTO)

The car had been left running, according to the fire department.

A car left running inside the garage of a Benicia home caught fire Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at about 3:25 p.m. at a home in the 1700 block of Stuart Court. Arriving crews found the car smoldering in the home's driveway.  

According to the fire department, the car had been running unattended in the garage when the fire started. The owner pushed the vehicle to the driveway and was able to extinguish the flames using a portable fire extinguisher.

Firefighters confirmed that the fire was out and assisted with smoke removal. No injuries were reported, and the flames did not spread to the home. 

The fire caused extensive damage to the car's engine compartment
and exterior, fire officials said.  

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
