The email sent to district staff by Assistant Superintendent Michael Gardner said in part, "I have just received notification that Janice Adams was selected as the 2011/2012 Region 4 'Superintendent of the Year'."

Gardner said he and Adams worked together on Abelee’s nomination and he had nominated Adams.  “Janice didn’t know she was nominated and Jane didn’t know either,” said Gardner. “It was a surprise for both of them when they won in Solano County.”

In the regional competition Adams received letters of support from Chief Andrew Bidou of the Benicia Police Department and Jay Speck, the Solano County Superintendent of Schools.

The California Association of School Administrators sponsors the competition.  The association breaks the state into 19 regions.  Region 4 includes Lake, Mendocino, Sonoma, Napa, Marin and Solano counties.

Patch will update this article as more details become available.  Adams is at a meeting of superintendents from around the state and was unavailable for comment.
