New School Board Member Could be Named This Week

The Benicia Unified School District's Board of Education has had a vacancy since Dana Dean left to become a Solano County Board of Education trustee.

The Benicia Unified School District this week will seek to fill a vacancy on its board.

The vacancy, created when Trustee Dana Dean was appointed to the Solano County Board of Education, will be discussed in a special meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

If a new school board member is chosen, he or she will be sworn in immediately.

The applicants for the position are:

  • Peter Morgan
  • Rick Ernst
  • Tina Thorn
  • Ellen Blaufarb
  • Nicole Nunes
  • Thelma Bentley
  • Sandra Allen

The new trustee will be serving the rest of Dean's term, which will likely be extended to 2014. The district has moved to switch its election dates to even-numbered years, extending each board member's term by one year.
