Poetry Out Loud Winner Heading for Statewide Contest

Benicia High senior wins with Longfellow and Jane Miller poems.

Twelve high school students competed this weekend in "", a poetry recitation contest.  The winning student was Benicia High School senior Austin Car who recited "May You Always be the Darling of Fortune" by Jane Miller, and "The Children's Hour" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Benicia Unified is the only district in Solano county participating in the conteest so Carr will represent the county in the statewide competition March 25-26, 2012 in Sacramento. The national finals are scheduled for National Finals May 13-15 in Washington, DC.

Cooper  Wright: "Thoughtless Cruelty" by Charles Lamb, and "Song of the Powers" by David Mason.

Arianna Cabebe:  "Poetry" by Marianne Moore, and "Revenge" by Letitia Elizabeth Landon. 

Kimberlee King: "To the Ladies" by Lady Mary Chudleigh, and "Romance" by Claude McKay.

Chelsea Tomsic: "The Poet" by Yone Noguchi, and "Let it be Forgotten" by Sarah Teasdale.

Daniella Davis: "Romance" by Claude McKay, and "Hope" by Emily Dickinson.

Eden Ritter: "Floating Island" by Dorothy Wordsworth, and "Fairy Tale Logic" by A. E. Stallings.

Zoe Garfinkel: "Chord" by Stewart Dybeck, and "Shall Earth no More Inspire Thee" by Emily Bronte.
