Police Log: Inappropriate Pot Smoking, Disappearing Barking Dog and a Stolen Bat

9:28 a.m.: There was a barking dog on Southampton Road. The dog’s person was away from the home and the Animal control Officer will follow-up.
10:13 a.m.: The guy smoking pot on East B Street had a medical marijuana card. Officers pointed out that East B Street is not an approved place to smoke pot, even if it is medicinal.
11:53 p.m.: Officers opened an investigation into an alleged theft of a lawnmower. There is a suspect in the case.
12:07 p.m.: A car parked in a handicap spot on Southampton, but without a handicap placard or license plate was gone when officers arrived.
12:33 p.m.: A car parked in a No Parking Zone on Rose Drive was ticketed.
1:06 p.m.: There were reports of a man walking an unleashed Pitbull on East D Street. Officers were unable to find them.
1:57 p.m.: Someone allegedly left two dogs tied up in a park on Riverview for nearly two hours.
3:27 p.m.: A business at Gateway Plaza reported that a man stole a bat and possibly other merchandise.
3:29 p.m.: A man reported being threatened by another man on East Fifth Street. Officers were able to get both men to agree to stay away from each other.
3:35 p.m.: The band that was practicing on Dover agreed to close the garage door after officers received noise complaints.
3:55 p.m.: A door-to-door solicitor working on Oxford was given directions on obtaining a permit to solicit in Benicia.
4:29 p.m.: There was a family disturbance on West K Street that was resolved before officers arrived.
4:45 p.m.: Officers talked to a boy in the vicinity of Hawthorne who was making a dirt jump ramp for his bicycle. It is unclear if the boy is wants to be a civil engineer or a stunt man when he gets older.
5:22 p.m.: Two men on Riverview were yelling at each other. One of the men left before officers arrived.
6:23 p.m.: A business alarm on First Street malfunctioned.
8:59 p.m.: someone reported a suspicious person at a West J Street business. Upon arrival officers were informed the person was a regular customer.
10:17 p.m.: The disappearing barking dog made noise on Sherman.
11:13 p.m.: The folks hanging out in a car on Channing left after police arrived.
11:42 p.m.: A man and woman were having a heated argument on Southampton. Officers convinced them to have a less heated, quieter exchange.
11:51 p.m.: A 29-year-old Benicia man who had a no bail warrant issued for his arrest was taken to county jail. He was arrested on East L Street and was wanted for driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Editor’s Note: Even though I inject a bit of humor into these police logs, please remember, the men and women whose job it is to protect us rarely find it funny when they are approaching a drunk person or a building where the alarm is going off.
