Valero Funds Family Art Day

Arts Benicia's art making event is inspired by community art project.

On Sunday,  Arts Benicia will  host in conjunction with the upcoming .

The event is inspired by the Mosaic community art project, a fundraiser for art programs. Artistic Benicians with a wide range of abilities were given six-inch-square mesonite tiles to create a piece of art. The finished tiles have been assembled into a stunning 144-piece community mosaic currently on exhibit at the Arts Benicia gallery.

Tiles are available for purchase at $20 each. To make it interesting, the artwork will be awarded to buyers via lottery so buyers will not know which piece they are getting. Each tile is numbered and on May 1, numbers will be drawn randomly and matched up to buyers.

On Sunday, children and their parents will be able to make their own tiles using a variety of art media. The event will be held from 1 to 3 pm at the Classroom Studio.

Family Art Day and other children's programs are funded by Valero Benicia. “They also fund our Children's Gallery Program which brings Benicia's school children into the gallery to view art,” said Laura Buchan, Program Coordinator at Arts Benicia. “The students are treated to an art activity with a trained docent as well. It is all generously funded by Valero for which we are very grateful.”
