One-day event in Napa and Solano Counties will raise funds for community agencies
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
One in four adult women is a victim of domestic violence at some point in her life; men can be victims too. Domestic violence affects people of all ages, racial groups, cultures, religions, sexual orientations, educational backgrounds and income levels.
To help raise funds to help fight domestic violence, select restaurants in Napa and Solano Counties will donate a portion of their daily proceeds this Thursday, October 18, 2012, to local community agencies that work in domestic violence prevention. Participating restaurants include:
- Athenian Grill in Suisun City
- Chez Soul in Fairfield
- First Street Café in Benicia
- Murillo’s (Monte Vista) in Vacaville
- Tacqueria Rosita in American Canyon and Napa
- Tacqueria Maria in Napa
- Zio Fraedo’s in Vallejo
“Domestic violence is a serious health issue in our community,” said Dr. Veronica Obodo, co-chair of Kaiser Permanente’s Family Violence Prevention Team. “Events like ‘Eat to Defeat’ help remind us that there are others who need our help. Dining out at one of the participating local restaurants is an easy way for everyone to help make a difference right here in our community.”
One hundred percent of the funds raised from “Eat to Defeat” will be evenly distributed among the following community agencies:
- Alternatives for Better Living
- Catholic Social Services
- Dixon Family Services
- Fighting Back Partnership
- L.A.S.T Transition House
- LIFT3 Support Group
- Napa Emergency Women’s Services
- Safequest Solano
This is the sixth year Kaiser Permanente’s Family Violence Prevention Team has sponsored “Eat to Defeat.” The team is a collaborative of local agencies and Kaiser Permanente staff dedicated to ending domestic and family violence.
