Thomas Ambrose Donohue, 91, passed away peacefully in his Benicia Home Monday, November 26, 2012 surrounded by his family and long time care provider Linda Acain.
Thomas was born in New York to Thomas and Mary Ellen Donohue both from Ireland. He was raised in New York City. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II from 1941 to 1944 in Europe.
In 1946 he joined the National Guard and manned a search light atop Mt. Diablo until he was discharged in 1950.
Thomas worked for 37 years as a Chief Engineer for the National Reserve Fleet in Suisun Bay. He also served as a Reserve Officer for the Benicia Police Department in the early 1960's.
Thomas was known for being able to fix about almost anything. He loved taking things apart just to see how they worked. What he loved most were the trips to Maui he and his loving wife of 66 years Mildred took almost every year.
He was preceded in death by Mildred on September 13, 2010. They met in Martinez in January 1944 and married three months later on April 24, 1944. Together they had three children, Son Donald (Linda) of Benicia, Daughters Theresa Gardner (Deceased) of Fairfield and Pamela Kramer (Terry) of Palm Desert; Grandchildren Thomas & Caitlin Donohue; Scot and Shannon Gardner, Sarah & Kristine Kramer; Great-Grandchildren Samantha, Logan, Karlee, Alyssa & Kolton.
Thomas is survived by his Sister Elizabeth and Brother John. Thomas's family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for their care and support.
