Benicia Boy Scouts Recycling Christmas Trees Until Jan. 12

Benicia residents can have their Christmas trees recycled for a small donation.

Now that Christmas is in the rear-view mirror, many Benicia residents will be looking to dispose of their Christmas trees before they become an eyesore or a fire hazard.

The Benicia Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Venture Crew will be recycling trees until Jan. 12: the trees can be dropped off at Benicia Community Park on Rose Drive or First Baptist Church at 1055 Southampton Road, or picked up from homes on these dates:

  • Saturday, Dec. 29
  • Sunday, Dec. 30
  • Saturday, Jan. 5
  • Saturday, Jan. 6
  • Sunday, Jan. 12

Trees must be left in front of homes before 9 a.m., and donations are encouraged but not required.

Pickups and drop-offs planned next 3 weekends

Everybody loves opening presents beneath a Christmas tree, but it’s hard to find anyone who likes dried-out dead trees sitting out on the sidewalk for weeks after the holiday.

Have no fear.

Benicia Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Venture Crew members launch their annual Christmas tree recycling fundraiser this weekend and next to rid Benicia’s streets of the seasonal eyesores.

Scouts will be available to accept trees at the Benicia Community Park on Rose Drive and the First Baptist Church at 1055 Southampton Road, or to pick them up from homes on the following dates:

  • Saturday, December 29
  • Sunday, December 30
  • Saturday, January 5
  • Saturday, January 6
  • Sunday, January 12
  • Hours of Operation: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Donations are not required, but are encouraged.  The tree recycling drive is the scout troops’ largest fundraiser.

Many homeowners attach a $7 dollar bill to the tree on the scheduled pickup date.  The scouts will also accept donations by mail.

To arrange drop-off or pickup times, call the Boy Scouts on their tree pick-up hotline at 551-4520 or quickly enter in your information on the WEB at www.beniciascouts.org.

For pickups, leave the tree in the front yard before 9 AM on the scheduled day.

To drop off a tree, take it to the far parking lot at the Benicia Community Park or to the church between 9 AM to 4 PM.
