Benicia Volunteers to Practice Earthquake Drills Saturday

The Benicia Emergency Response Team will participate in a disaster drill this weekend.

Local volunteers will spend their weekend planning what to do in case of a massive earthquake in Benicia.

The Benicia Emergency Response Team, a volunteer group that seeks to prepare residents to assist first-responders, will participate in "Formidable Footprint–A National Neighborhood Exercise" on Saturday.

“Recent disasters and severe weather events nationally, such as Hurricane Sandy, illustrate that we all need to be better prepared to support the needs of our families, neighbors, and community should a disaster strike,” a press release quoted Benicia Emergency Response Team Chief Larry Whitney as saying. “The Formidable Footprint exercise gives us an excellent opportunity to work together, learn, and test our capabilities sowe are ready to help our fellow Benicia residents survive and recover from disaster.”
