Date for Historical Society Home and Garden Tour is Set

Most homes on tour are downtown near Capitol State Park.

Seven vintage Benicia homes and two gardens will be open to people who buy ticket for the Benicia Historical society Home and Garden tour scheduled for Saturday, May 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Most of the sites are clustered near the Fischer-Hanlon house, where refreshments will be served as part of the tour.

“All the homes are great examples of Benicia’s pioneer California architecture,” said Jerry Hayes, board member and past president of the Benicia Historical Society.  “With our late spring this year, we can expect the gardens to be in bloom and they will add to the tour experience.”

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the tour. Tickets are available at Benicia Main Street, Benicia Chamber of Commerce, Bookshop Benicia and Camellia Tea Room.

Proceeds will benefit the Benicia State Park Association’s efforts to keep the state parks open and the Benicia Historical Society’s fund to restore the Von Pfister Adobe.

“This is a great way for the public to participate in the work to preserve and protect the capitol and the Fischer-Hanlon home and garden,” Hayes said.
