The Sad Statistics of Pet Overpopulation

Every single day shelter workers are forced to kill healthy kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs because there are not enough good homes for them.  Between four and six million healthy animals are killed each year. Yet the tragedy is preventable.  By simply spaying or neutering the animals that bring us such joy and love, we can humanely end the companion animal overpopulation crisis.

Some Statistics:

One female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years.

One female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in 6 years.

No homes for littermates is one of the top ten reasons people relinquish their cats and dogs to shelters.

In a study of relinquishment of cats and dogs in 12 U.S. animal shelters, 30% of the pets are purebred.

Of the dogs and cats surrendered 55% are unaltered.

It costs U.S. taxpayers an estimated $2 billion each year to round up, house, kill, and dispose of homeless animals.
