Benicia Love Poem: Terrify Me
Each day Benicia Patch will publish submissions to the annual Benicia Love Poem Contest. Readers are encouraged to comment on the poems.
Terrify Me by Catherine McSharry
Could we share the pleasure, share the pain?
Could loving whatever is left be right as rain?
Could we say, “I’m sorry love” and start over please?
Cause the thought of losing you’s enough to terrify me
I’m certain that time will absorb the final straw
And maybe in time you’ll forgive my fatal flaw
And maybe love will beat the odds, bridge the uncertainties
For the thought of losing you’s enough to terrify me

You are the voice that calls me out
You are the lips, the reviving mouth to mouth
You are the breath of life, my love, come back to me please
Cause the thought of losing you’s enough to terrify me
