Benicia Love Poem: The dog

Each day Benicia Patch will publish submissions to the annual Benicia Love Poem Contest. Readers are encouraged to comment on the poems.

The dog by Sarah Rohrs

Jenny said you feel it first -
the love but it's always
the yank slow steady
and hard
on the choke hold
when you get out
side and sniff.
Who said you
had any rights
to beg.
It was in the sticky
Tarot card pulled
that night under a
kitchen table light
after dishing out
so many apologies
they fill the lorries
rolling onward
the Moon saying
follow the tides
and that boat will
be waiting here
even while you
are rubbing your
tired eyes
before the master.
