Benicia Love Poem: Windshield Footprints

Each day Benicia Patch will publish submissions to the annual Benicia Love Poem Contest. Readers are encouraged to comment on the poems.

Windshield Footprints by Greg Emminizer

 I see the smudges on the glass,

They are not in the way.
They actually help me see real clear
A love that's moved away.
On the other end sat a little girl
With feet stretched towards the sky,
Pushing the boundaries of her life,
Leaving footprints for my eye.

They are not dirt that should be cleaned
But mile-markers along a path;
The mark left behind of someone's feet
and these made upon my glass.
Like sandcastles washed by the waves of the sea
time fades these imprints left behind.
Yet memory tells me of the one whose feet
Still walks love's path in my mind.
