“Almost Cracked” Prequel to Nutcracker Suite Dance Show

“Almost Cracked,” Benicia High School (BHS) winter dance show will engage audience members in the prequel story of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” ballet.  The clever story line will let the audience follow the human Nutcracker who will be deceived by the evil Rat King and protected by the gentle Snow Queen in events that magically lead up to the wooden nutcracker being placed under the Christmas tree in Anna’s home.

The dance show collaborators have tied together a storyline that will showcase a full spectrum of dance styles from modern to ballet to jazz to tap. Some of the acts feature the work developed in Beginning, Intermediate and Advance dance classes conducted by BHS Dance teacher, Christine Mani.  Other dances have been choreographed by alumni of the dance program and local choreographers who are continuing to build their talents at university and professionally.  Current students also put in a competing bid to have their choreography presented in the show.

“Just as the prequel “Wicked” re-ignited the interest of audiences in the story of the “Wizard of Oz,” our show, “Almost Cracked,” will make you want to re-open the story of this winter holiday classic.  We think it will be a great way to celebrate the holiday season,“ said Mani.
