HAWKS 2  by Larry Chryspyn

HOW CAN I WRITE POETRY
WHEN RED TAILED HAWKS
FLY ACROSS THE BLUE SKY
SO CLOSE TO MY WINDOWS
FLOAT WITHOUT MOVING A WINGTIP

THEY CREATE LINES IN THE HEAVENS
SOARING SONNETS
NO POET COULD WRITE
AND FEW WRITERS CAN READ

I try to give new writers a chance to be published in this column each week. That being said, I was drawn to today’s selection like a moth to a front door light.

The selection is entitled, “HAWKS 2” and was written by our friend Larry Chryspyn. Larry was featured in this column not too long ago when I reviewed his poem, “Mona Lisa Smile”.

Speaking of moths and hawks and all the wonders of the natural world, I am familiar with the trepidation a writer feels when trying to describe the indescribable. When you think about it, that is the writer’s responsibility. The mission if you will. That’s what we do.

Those of us that take it upon ourselves to write must describe things and events and emotions to others. The trick is the balancing act of saying enough while not saying too much. The depth of the immersion of the writer into the subject matter is a unique and fulfilling experience.

Good on you Larry!
