The Friday Poem: Nameless as Rain

Each Friday Benicia Patch will publish an original poem. If you would like to submit your own poem please send it to benicia@patch.com.

Here is today's poetry selection with commentary by Benicia Patch's Poetry Guru Jeff Burkhart.

Ahhh, Thank you John Sebastian for your words of wisdom. What a day for a daydream! We spend so much of our lives daydreaming that I think we tend to forget how wonderful it can be to drift along in the freedom of our own minds. Lost in our thoughts. Not chained to a television broadcast schedule. Contemplation. Creation. Possibility. Anything can happen. Sherry Sheehan, one of our First Tuesday poetry group, reminds us that all the wonders of the world and our place in it are as close as our kitchen window on a rainy day. She has invited us to share her journey by reading her poem, "NAMELESS AS RAIN".

Enjoy! Jeff Burkhart "Rhyme and Reason"

NAMELESS AS RAIN by Sherry Sheehan

So quiet is its landing
on the kitchen window
of my third-floor apartment
this still September evening
that I am surprised when I see
the rivulets of cleaning
this silent rain bestows
as it streams
through months of dust
spewed from the far freeway,
making me wish I could be
floating on the other side
of the glass, finger-painting
newly wet dirt into rain flowers
so transparent that
I let them remain unnamed.
