The Friday Poem: "November"

Each Friday Benicia Patch will publish an original poem. If you would like to submit your own poem please send it to benicia@patch.com.

“November” by Peter Bray

“Tan leather boots
that once sweated
in the heat of summer
that later carried
the brown dust of autumn
now are to be found
tracking mud down the hallways
bring in a reminder
that rainy season has begun.
Droplets run from the toe
forming a slurry at the bottom
where the autumn’s dust
has met with the early rain.
And the leaves
Hanging from the eucalyptus,
Refreshed by the rain
Seem cautious of the months to come.
November has well begun.”

Let's take a moment to think about change. As the last remnants of summer have faded into recollection, we revel in the beauty of the changing leaves and the bounty of the harvest. There is something about all the seasons that makes them special to each of us. Fall is here. Winter approaches. Close your eyes and remember the sights, sounds, smells and feelings these quarterly changes bring with them as they surround us. Bring back the seasons of your past.

Peter Bray has offered up his poem "November". He shares his impressions of the reminders of November's fast approach. The stark imagery comes from the perspective of a working man that lives close to the Earth and his home. He paints a vivid picture on the canvases of our minds. Let's join Peter Bray and welcome our old friend "November".
