A Ship on the Strait: Blue Sapphire

This ship moves dry bulk cargo throughout the world.

The Blue Sapphire is a break bulk Handymax cargo ship.  She is measures 189 meters long, is 32 meters at the beam and draws just under 12 meters.  Handymax is a term that describes the deadweight tonnage (DWT)of a vessel.  Handymax describes a ship of 40,000-50,000 DWT.

The Blue Sapphire was built by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries at their IHI Marine United Yokohama shipyard in Yokohama, Japan and is owned and operated by Athens Diversified Shipping of Athens, Greece.

The Blue Sapphire is home-ported and registered in Majuro in the Marshall Islands.
