A Ship on the Strait: CSL Trailblazer

This merchant ship is a dry cargo bulk carrier. She has a funny looking stern that makes houses the motors and mechanisms that make her a self unloading cargo carrier.

The CSL Trailblazer is a self-unloading cargo ship.  She is registered in the Bahamas and was built in 1978 at Sasebo Heavy Industries in Sasebo, Japan.  In this picture CSL Trailblazer is outbound just west of the Carquinez Bridge.  Her next port of call is Santa Rosalia, Mexico.

CSLTrailblazer measures 178 meters long, boasts a 26 meter beam and draws 7.1 meters.  The boxy aft section is where cargo like gypsum or coal is unloaded.  A conveyor belt runs the length of the ship and can move cargo form any of the holds to the stern section that houses two conveyor arms that deploy 30 feet out from either the port or starboard sides of the ship for unloading cargo.
