Bites Nearby: The Grill at the Union 76 Station

If you like your food cooked to order, try this grill.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Benicia Patch picks a great restaurant in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

The at the corner of Military East and East Fifth streets has gas pumps out front and a car wash on the side. If you are hungry, its grill serves kabobs, burgers, Polish dogs, Indian food or vegetarian dishes.  For the discerning large appetite, there is the half-pound burger with fries and a soda for $5.25. Up it to a one-pound burger and the price is $8.99.

Their fried oreos, twinkies, and cheesecake are not to be left out. Gotta try them at least once!

I thought you were being cheeky by starting your series with the most obscure eatery in Benicia but judging from the constant stream of patrons today, I'll have to it admit it may only be obscure to me. We had two 1/4 pounder's with fries and drinks and got change back on a $10. The burgers were handmade, fresh grilled and tasty. The fries were thin and crunchy. We were just barely able to talk ourselves out of the deep-fried cheesecake. Definitely NOT your standard gas-station eatery! Looking forward to the rest of this series
