Compressor Problem at Valero Leads to Higher Gasoline Prices

Flaring on Thursday, July 26, 2012 was also blamed on the compressor problem in the fluid catalytic cracker.

The fluid catalytic cracker at the Benicia Valero Refinery will be out of service “for several days” while a mechanical problem with a compressor in the unit is attended to according to Bloomberg Businessweek.  The unit downtime means the 170,000-barrel-a-day refinery will produce less gasoline and is already leading to higher gas prices in the Bay Area.
