Sprouts and Shutters: Market Closes, Magazine Opening Downtown Office

Patch will periodically tell readers about businesses that are opening and closing in Benicia.

Shutter: Bela’s Market, located at 632 First Street, has closed its doors.

Sprout: Benicia Magazine has moved into 611 First Street.  The sign is hung outside and there is lots of art on the walls.  The office could certainly be open in time for the annual Holiday Open House, Friday, November 30, 2012.

If you know of a new business opening its doors or an established business that is calling it quits let us know by sending an email to benicia@patch.com.

Bela's gone, I do believe we all saw that coming, but they did give it a good go at it. Benicia , if you do not live here, you drive on by, which in my opinion is the reason for business make it or break it syndrome. The logistics of this city helps in keeping out the riff raff, but it also keeps potential spenders out as well. Before moving to Benicia, I would just stay on 680 or 780 and drive on. To me Benicia just has yet to come up with a reason to stop and shop, a bedside community longing for consumers. A hidden town with low crime, productive citizens and a large population of artists. Like field of Dreams "if we build it, they will come" just a matter of what to build.
