Strikers Continue to Picket Raley’s

Non-union store employees and strikers take time to talk to customers.

Customers entering the Raley’s in Southampton Shopping Center on Wednesday, November 7 got a flyer and a pep talk from striking union members and non-striking store employees.

The union members were handing out literature telling why they were out on strike.  The non-union employees were handing out flyers advertising free groceries for customers who spent at least $20.00 in the store and telling potential customers that Raley’s in Benicia is not a non-union store.

When asked why union members were striking at a non-union Raley’s Store Director Jose Roas said, “We’re a non-union store with a union meat department.”

Rosa said the strikers are being successful in steering regular customers to other food stores.  “We have seen a small drop off,” said Rosa when asked if business was at normal levels.  "The main thing is I want to take care of my employees and take care of my customers.”

He motioned toward both strikers walking the picket line and cashiers who were taking care of customers when he made the statement.

I don't really need anything per se from the market today, but I am going down there at lunch just to cross the picket line.

I'm really unclear as to what the strike is actually about but I don't need anything at Raley's bad enough to cross a picket line for it- yikes!

I will continue to support the union workers. I'll be shopping at Safeway until this is settled.

The strike, at the Benicia store at least, is by the meat cutters. Apparently $60,000+ plus generous benefits isn't enough for high school educated people who cut meat.

Please don't feel inclined to brag about your spiteful life. We get that apparently you're above these hardworking people, you don't have to go out of your way to emphasize it.

Woah now. I have a college degree and a 4 month old daughter and I'm a meat cutter at the benicia Raleys. Calling us nothing but high school educated people is insulting. We are in a 37 degree meat room for 8+ hours and have to go through 6 years of training before cutting meat. Also we have to go through a 6 month certification process called ServeSafe to be licensed to handle food products properly. Tell me sir, do you know the safe temperature zones for beef, poultry, and seafood? Could you tell me the difference between loin meat and chuck meat without googling it? I think my point is clear, we work hard just like anyone else and deserve to keep what we have.

Nic - Ignore Joe and Bobby. Both make inflamitory remarks to get responce. I often wonder if they are same person with different profiles.

A. Wear a coat if it's so cold B. Not my fault you have a kid C. Your 'degree' must be in history or communications....

David, what is this Joe and Bobby? I happen to agree with nicholas, whole heartedly and I happen to Believe that Joe Feltcher is a Trogladyte of the worse kind. And plus, prior to this response I haven't said anything about the strike. More power to the Unions!!! Fight the Power!!!

Bobby - I ofen wonder why you respond to Joe Feltchers inflamitory comments. He may be a racist, but we can all see that. Most posters here don't respond to him - his ignorance of race issues is not worth the time. The way you two go at it on this sight has made me wonder from time to time if you are in fact the same person with two different profiles. For the record, I have not shopped at Raley's since the strike, even though I loath going to Safeway here in Benicia.

David, I now know that I was put on Earth to slay bullies; I am a Bully Slayer. Hell read my profile!!! And not to mention this, my "Black mans' Oath": In the Blackest lie and in the Whitest fright...No racism shall escape this Black mans' sight...Let those who practice their racist rite....Beware my pen, when this Black man writes!!!

Oh and David Johnston; I don't hide behind a fake picture. That picture you see is really me. What you see is what you get with me, nothing more, nothing less. I am real, you feel me!!!
