Are You Prepared for an Earthquake or Chemical Spill?

Learn how to prepare yourself and your family for any disaster. Also learn how to serve your community by becoming a BERT member.

Recent surveys reveal that 77% to 91% of Americans are unprepared to survive a disaster; any disaster, natural or man-made!

The City of Benicia and the Benicia Fire Department have a program to help train all Benicians on how to prepare themselves and their families for a man-made or natural disaster.  In addition to training individual preparedness it also trains on how to serve their fellow Benicians once their family is determined to be safe and secure. That program is entitled “B.E.R.T.” an acronym for Benicia Emergency Response Team and the next training session, the 25th class of 25-30 Benicians, begins May 22nd and lasts through June 30th.

So what’s involved in Disaster Preparation? In my opinion, first and most importantly, it is an attitude that we will get through this as individuals and as a community. Our role is to receive the information and then act on what we have learned. There are a few critical steps that will make all the difference in the world for you and your family.
