Benicia, Nor Cal Energy Users Advised to Conserve Power

Flex Alert issued for Monday and Tuesday as heat intensifies.

Anticipating record heat, the California Independent System Operator this morning issued Flex Alerts for Northern California for Monday and Tuesday.

Officials are asking consumers to reduce their energy use due to anticipated high demand.

According to the National Weather Service temperatures above 100 will continue through to the middle of the week.

Energy demand is expected to be especially high between noon and 7 p.m., when high temperatures are expected to increase the use of air conditioners, according to California ISO officials.

Officials expect demand to peak at 48,300 megawatts around 4:30
p.m. on Monday, and at 47,808 megawatts on Tuesday.

Updated information on energy use and supply is available here.
