Impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on citizens within Solano County

The Benicia-Vallejo branch of the American Association of
University Women (AAUW) is hosting an informational public meeting about the
impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on citizens within Solano County.


The presentation will be held from 7 – 9 p.m. on Wednesday,
November 6, 2013 at the Community Room of the First Baptist Church, 1055
Southampton Road, Benicia, CA 94510.


Panel members will review the new health insurance options
offered to you as a Californian and show you how to access them in Solano
County or online. U.S. Congressman Mike Thompson representing California’s
Fifth District (including Solano County), will open the presentation. He and
Mel Orpilla, Thompson’s District representative, will provide an overview of
ACA law and federal government resources available. He will be followed by  Cristina Calvo, outreach and education counselor with the Solano Coalition for Better Health. She will address California’s
healthcare exchange called Covered California andwill review key
steps in the enrollment process. Liz Gibboney, Deputy Executive Director of
Partnership HealthPlan of California in Fairfield, will discuss an overview of
the Medi-Cal program in North Bay area and how it will change in 2014.  A general overview of facts for businesses in
Solano County will also be covered.

Other political representatives have been invited to be
available to answer questions following the panel discussion. Norlyn Asprec,
field representative for Susan Bonilla, California assemblywoman for the 14th
District, is invited.  Danny Bernadini,
field representative for Lois Wolk, California Senator for the 3rd
District, is also invited.


The program will provide a starting point to understand and
use the ACA law to help yourself or others you know who are in need. The
program will address how the healthcare law affects you, your family or your
small business, here in California. It's for people who already have insurance
and people who don't — but want to get it. Speakers will address cost concerns
and identify where you can get help to calculate expenses.

For those interested, pre-enrollment Solano Coalition for
Better Health and representatives from the Solano chapter of National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a statewide enrollment
entity, will have pre-enrollment applications available for contact in the days following this
session.


This meeting is open to the public – individuals wanting to
purchase healthcare exchange insurance are especially welcome. Religious
organizations or community non-profit agencies interested in assisting Solano County
residents toward this goal are also encouraged to send a representative to attend.
