Thomas Eric Stanton - Paintings From Maui

The Marilyn Citron O'Rourke Gallery at the Benicia Public Library is pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by local artist Thomas Eric Stanton. The works included in the exhibit were inspired by trips the artist made to Hawaii over more than four decades, beginning with a tour with the US Merchant Marine in 1967. Stanton returned to the Islands in 1973 to do mural work, and again in 1998 and 2012. He would rarely make artwork while in the islands, but upon returning to the mainland became intensely productive.
There will be a reception for the artist at 2 PM on Saturday, May 10th, to which the public is invited.
At 4 PM on May 10th Stanton, an accomplished poet, will also host a poetry reading at the Library. Writers sharing work inspired by the Hawaiian Islands will include Benicia Poet Laureate Lois Requist, as well as regional poets Sarah Rohrs, Joel Fallon, Richard Toronto, and others to be confirmed.
