Benicia Civil War Living History

The American Civil War Association will present a Civil War Living History event at the Benicia Capitol State Historic Park on March 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is hosted in cooperation with the Benicia State Parks Association and admission is free.

Event highlights include maneuver drills, a black powder firearm maintenance demonstration, and performances of life in a typical Civil War military camp. Over 40 reenactors will be present and dressed in Union attire at the State Historic Park, and reenactors in civilian attire will be at Elizabeth's Hair Design on First Street to increase awareness of the event. Visitors are encouraged to also visit the Benicia Capitol Building and Fischer-Hanlon House for a more complete historic experience.

The American Civil War Association (ACWA) engages in ten events per year, eight of which are firing events, and it counts over 850 reenactors among its current membership. Visitors who wish to join may do so by speaking to an ACWA representative at the event or by visiting the ACWA's website at acwa.org. Opportunities to donate to the Benicia State Parks Association will also be available at both the Benicia Capitol Building and the Living History event. The Benicia State Parks Association (BSPA), which can be visited online at www.protectbeniciastateparks.com, is dedicated to preventing the closure of the Benicia Capitol State Historic Park, and it seeks to preserve and maintain the site once an agreement has been arranged with the state. Both the ACWA and BSPA are 501(c)(3) charitable organizations.
