Tribute to Debbie Friedman

On Saturday night, March 12:2011, at 6:30 p.m. the Solano Napa Chapter of Hadassah will be sponsoring dinner, a sing-a-long and a movie as a tribute to Debbie Friedman.

Debbie Friedman was a singer/songwriter who transformed Jewish music.  Over the course of her career, she released 20 albums, performed at Carnegie Hall and in hundreds of cities around the world.  According to her website, www.debbiefriedman.com, her songs have universal appeal because they “speak” to each listener in a real and personal way. One of her most famous songs, Mi Shebeirach, (prayer for healing), is sung in synagogues and churches around the nation and abroad. Debbie Friedman passed away in January 2011.

Filmmaker Ann Coppel made a documentary about Debbie Friedman in 2004 called “Journey of Spirit.”  http://www.ajourneyofspirit.com/project.html. The film followed Ms. Friedman from 1997-2002 and consists of interviews and concerts in which Ms. Friedman performed over those years.  The film earned several awards upon release.
