June 12th marks the 45th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Loving v. Virginia, which struck down anti-miscegenation laws which would have banned interracial marriages like mine. It blows my mind to think that in my lifetime, there were actually laws in place which could have prevented me from marrying my husband of 20 years. How could anyone be against the marriage of two adults who love each other? It shouldn’t matter if a couple is interracial, or of the same sex. If two adults love each other, they should have the right to marry.
