Are Benicia Bought Christmas Trees Better?

Benicia Historical Museum at the Camel Barn is again partnering with Genesis House to bring Benicians a place to buy their trees locally.

Are you a Noble person or do you gravitate toward the Douglas Fir? If you’re an adventurous type you may want to try a Nordmann and if you go for graceful you may want to try a Grand.

These are the varieties of Christmas trees available at the at its Christmas tree lot. The Nordmann is new this year. Its needles are two-toned, green on top and silvery on the bottom. The silver bottom is supposed to reflect the lights and add a new dimension to the look of the decorated tree according to Toni Haughey of the Benicia Historical Society.

Tree sales started at 10 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving and will continue daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until December 24 or until the trees are all gone, whichever happens first.

Haughey says last year the trees were gone the weekend before Christmas.

“We sold 700 trees last year,” said Haughey. “This year we ordered 1,000. We have 350 right now, we’ll get another shipment on December 1 and another the following week.”

The trees range in size from about two feet to 12 feet tall. “Last year, the only eople who came to the lot and didn’t leave with a tree were folks who wanted tall trees,” said Haughey.

The most popular size is six to seven feet tall. A tree that size will cost $60. The trees cost $20 to $165 depending on the height. Proceeds from the tree sales are divided between Genesis House and the Benicia Historical Museum. Genesis house provides the manpower and the museum provides the lot.
