There is no confirmation on the cause of death.

Rick Ernst, a former Benicia planning commissioner and candidate for City Council died on Friday, August 2, 2013.  His passing was announced on his Facebook page.

Ernst caused a stir in the 2011 city council election because of his declared residency in the Benicia Industrial Park.  At the time Ernst claimed a residence on Bayshore Road in an area of the city zoned for General Industrial.  He was eventually cleared to take out nomination papers but wasn’t elected.

A memorial service will be held at the  Passalaqua Funeral Chapel, 901 West Second Street in Benicia on Wednesday, August 7 at 4pm.
