FIREWORKS RUINED!

Our family joined many other families on the east side of the Benicia Marina to picnic and wait for the fireworks show. It was cold and windy but we do this every year and enjoy playing games and visiting. As it began to get dark many more families, couples, and individuals began streaming in until there wasn't any lawn space left. The area around the Arneson sculpture was packed and our area by the boat launch ramp was also full. About a minute after the long awaited fireworks began the sprinklers came on all of the lawn areas. People were startled as they scrambled to get their belongings and kids off of the lawns. Everything belonging to everyone got soaking wet. We got soaked trying to retrieve our things. Needless to say we couldn't watch the fireworks and once we had everything off of the lawn we had to pack up and go home because we were all soaked and it was too cold to let the children stand on the sidewalk, wet, to watch the rest of the fireworks. I don't know whose responsibility this is but it was outrageous. We were all pleased that the restroom was open after years of it being locked and it looked like, in spite of the cold and wind, we were going to be able to relax and enjoy without having to drive a child somewhere to use the bathroom. This was worse! Benicia makes a big deal out of being a family oriented community, its Torchlight Parade on the evening of July 3rd, and the festivities in city park on the fourth so why didn't someone turn off the sprinklers?
