We're All In The Same Boat...

Ain't Nuthin' Like the Real Thing, Baby

I never thought the day would come when I would say that the best time of my day is night. That's when I get to go to bed and graze, while watching trashy "BOATS" on "Lifetime TV". I call these movies BOATS because I realized how many times I recall the plot to my husband and say, "It was a true story!" That led to BasedOnATrueStory aka BOATS. I love these BOATS and I guess it's because I'm curious about what makes people tick and it takes my mind off of my own crummy problems. I think that's why many of us enjoy watching live events on TV. Why do you think "Cops" is such a big hit?  And what about all the real disasters we see almost every day! Most of us are glued to the TV when these tragedies occur.

Since I've never really learned how to watch a DVD without following handwritten instructions, I've ended up watching so many movies that I DVR'd, more than once. I'm not talking about 2,4,10 or even 50 times each. I have such an exciting life, I figured out that there are about 40 movies that I've seen 100's of times. I think I've see "Love, Lies and Murder" over 500 times, easily. I've watched Betty Broderick gun down her ex-husband and new wife at least 450 to 500 times. I know it seems like I'm a deranged person, but they're so interesting to me. These murderers are in prison, as they should be, but why am I so into them? I've seen Lethal Vows probably 600 times and I still can't quite figure out how she didn't realize her wicked husband had been poisoning her in small doses for years with Selenium. I guess I'll have to watch it a couple of 100 more times to figure out.

With the holidays all around us, I feel kind of strange admitting to my obsession with BOATS, and bad BOATS at that. I love the holidays, but this year I'm not really feeling it, as they say. I did go to an Annual Christmas party given by our friends, the Klugs, which was all the Christmas fun I needed. After their great parties, you feel like you've completely fulfilled all the holiday fun you need. And even though we came home late afterwards, I was still ready for a nice BOATS movie. I watched Scott Peterson play innocent, as well as Drew Peterson.

I know many people get depressed around the holidays for various reasons. I also know the suicide rate goes up. I truly hope that if anyone in "Patchland" feels that way, they may just want to hold off on any morbid thoughts. More people love and care about you than you may know. Sometimes these people think that everyone else is living a perfect life, that they have perfect families or they just feel lonely and left out. Some people do have all of those wonderful things, but some things just look better from afar.

If you do feel lonely or sad, why not watch your own BOATS movie? You may feel better off because of it. If that doesn't make you feel better, call a friend or someone in your family and tell them how you feel. If you don't have much family or a good support system, call someone in the City of Benicia where I'm sure they can provide help for you. Depression really does hurt, but it will pass if you're willing to go through the process of getting stronger. Pray for happiness! As I've always said, You never know what great things can be waiting for you around the next corner.
