Amber Alert Cancelled, Father and Daughter Found Dead

Bodies discovered in El Dorado County are those of missing dad and daughter.

Update, Sunday, Aug. 14: CBS 47 reports that a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that an autopsy is under way to determine the cause of the death of the father and daughter. According  and the San Jose Mercury News, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation on Sunday did not give any details about the circumstances of the deaths. The article in the Bee said Moni Samaan was a Fair Oaks resident who worked for Hewlett-Packard as a development engineer.   

Bay City News Service—A statewide Amber Alert that had been issued for a child who was abducted by her father in Sacramento was canceled late Saturday evening after they were both found dead inside his vehicle, FBI  officials said.

Mourad Samaan, 49, of Sacramento took his 2-year-old daughter Madeline Samaan-Fey on Sunday, Aug. 7.

At about 8 p.m. Saturday, his green Toyota 4Runner was located in a remote area of El Dorado County near Placerville with both bodies inside, according to the FBI.

The cause and time of their deaths are unknown.

Samaan had shared joint custody of Madeline with her mother and was served a legal notice to return the child late last week, FBI officials said.

The mother reported the child missing Aug. 7 to Sacramento police, who worked in conjunction with the  Sacramento County Sheriff's Department and the FBI on the case.

Authorities said Friday the pair could have been headed toward the Bay Area, FBI officials said today.

Madeline was described as being 2 feet, 8 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes. Samaan, who is of Egyptian descent, is 5 feet, 6 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes and is believed to be an accomplished Spanish speaker.
