Benicia 2nd Alarm Building Fire Quickly Controlled

Flames were visible in the suite and coming out a window when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire in a second-floor office at a three-story building in Benicia Thursday afternoon.

Crews arrived at 1060 Grant St. around 1:15 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about flames coming from an office suite, Benicia Fire Division Chief Nicholas Thomas said.

The fire went to a second alarm because of the size of the building and the potential need for rescue, Thomas said. Flames were visible in the suite and coming out a window, he said.

Firefighters set up ladders and hose lines and the building was ventilated and searched for occupants, Thomas said.

The blaze was contained to the unoccupied SSA Marine office suite on the second floor and was controlled in 10 minutes, Thomas said.

SSA Marine provides stevedoring services at the privately operated Port of Benicia. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
