Vallejo Cop Dies in Shooting, Benicia Cops Involved in SWAT Operation to Find Suspect

Benicia Police Department confirms some Benicia officers assisted in a SWAT operation in Vallejo.

Update 7 p.m.:
Benicia Police Department spokesman Lt. Mike Daley said in an email that all available Benicia patrol and detective personnel were dispatched to Vallejo this afternoon to assist in the officer shooting incident where veteran Vallejo Officer Jim Capoot was shot and killed.  

Those officers were on scene in Vallejo for about an hour before returning to Benicia. The Benicia members of the regional SWAT team are still in Vallejo assisting in the search for the second suspect.

Capoot died at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Vallejo.  It was reported earlier that he was transported to John Muir Medical Center.

Update 4:25 p.m.:
The officer was taken to John Muir Medical Center where he died.

3:07 p.m.:
A Vallejo police officer was shot today following a bank robbery at the Springstowne Center on Springs Road.

The Vallejo Times-Herald reports one suspect is in custody and a regional SWAT team made up of law enforcement personnel from many agencies including Benicia Police Department is assisting Vallejo police in the search for the second suspect.
