Benicia Pet Grooming Store Owner Assaulted and Robbed, Police Say

An assault and robbery was reported on Grant Street Saturday evening.

A Benicia business owner was pushed to the ground and her purse stolen over the weekend, police say.

Around 7:19 p.m. on Saturday, police were called to Mickee's Pet Grooming on Grant Street, where they found one of the shop's owners, Benicia Police Lt. Frank Hartlig said.

"She indicated to us she had been assaulted–pushed to the ground–and her purse was taken by an unknown suspect," Hartig said. "This individual then took off running north behind the 900 block of Grant Street."

The victim described her assailant as a white male adult standing between 5-foot-11 and 6-foot-2, weighing around 180 pounds and wearing a camoflauge or gray sweatshirt and dark pants.

A bystander witnessed the robbery, but neither the witness or victim got a good look at the suspect's face, Hartig said.

The victim was not injured in the robbery.
