Benicia Police Arrest Man Who Was on Middle School Grounds

Police are still not sure why the man was on school property.

From the Benicia Police Department-

On 12/3/12, at approximately 8:50 am, Benicia Middle School staff contacted the Benicia Police Department regarding a subject that was illegally present upon  the school campus. The subject was on the east side of the Middle School on the black top. Middle School personnel quickly made contact with the subject, who departed the campus on his own when he learned the Middle School Office was being notified of his presence on campus.  There was no physical contact between this subject and any Middle School students or staff.

Benicia Police officers arrived as the subject, later determined to be Gervacio, was leaving the campus. Gervacio made brief contact with one of the arriving officers then fled on foot toward the Southampton Shopping Center. Officers were able to follow Gervacio in their vehicles and observed him enter the front doors of the Raley's Superstore at 890 Southampton Road.

The officers entered the store and observed Gervacio knocking items off the shelves as he headed toward the rear of the store. One officer was able to catch up to Gervacio and take him into custody.

Gervacio was arrested, transported to a local hospital for medical clearance, then transported and booked into the Solano County Jail in Fairfield. Gervacio was transported to the hospital for precautionary measures only. He did not sustain any injuries while being arrested. He ran a considerable distance, was involved in a very brief struggle with the arresting officer, and his overall behavior was a concern, so he was medically cleared before being booked into jail. Gervacio chose not to provide a statement to officers.  It is not known why Gervacio entered onto the Middle School campus.
