A teenager sustained serious injuries during the accident.

By Bay City News Service

Benicia police are asking the public to help locate a vehicle responsible for injuries to a teen bicyclist last week.

The juvenile teen was riding his bicycle south on West Seventh Street near Cheryl Drive around 7 p.m. on July 16, police said.

The teen applied his brakes to avoid hitting a vehicle that turned right onto Cheryl Drive from southbound West Seventh Street in front of the bicyclist, police said.

"One witness described the vehicle as an older blue or gray sedan, similar to a Toyota Camry, but wasn't positive," said Benicia Police  Lt. Mike Greene.

Witnesses were unable to provide a description of the driver.

The teen suffered serious injuries when he was thrown from the bike and the vehicle did not stop at the scene, police said. Other motorists at the scene stopped to render aid, police said.

The teen was hospitalized but is recovering at home.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Benicia police at (707) 745-3411 then push No. 1, or call Solano County Crime Stoppers at (707) 644-STOP.
