VALLEJO (BCN) - A 62-year-old Benicia woman was injured when she lost control of her car on Columbus Parkway in Vallejo this afternoon, a police traffic officer said.

The woman said an animal ran out in front of her 2010 Honda Fit as she was driving south on Columbus Parkway around 12:15 p.m., Officer Jeff Tai said.

There are fields on both sides of the roadway and signs about animals crossing in that area, Tai said. The Honda nearly tipped over and was resting on two wheels against shrubs on the side of the road when police arrived.

The Vallejo Fire Department cut off the passenger side door and removed the woman from the vehicle, Tai said.

She complained of pain and was taken to the NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield.
