Shortly after 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 14, Benicia firefighters were called to the shoreline near West Sixth and St. John’s Place where a body was spotted in the water.

According to a release from the Benicia Fire Department the body was in an area inaccessible from the shoreline so the U.S. Coast Guard was called in and was able to recover the body.

The Coast Guard brought the body to a private dock in the area where fire department personnel confirmed that the victim was deceased.  The Solano County coroner took possession of the body.

Benicia Patch reported on Friday, October 12 that a man was reported missing from a West Sixth Street home.  Benicia Police refused to comment on the identity of the victim or on the investigation into his death.

It is normal for the officials to withhold information until family members are notified.
