Deck Catches Fire on Baker Court Monday Night

The homeowner tried to put out the fire with a garden hose.

 

A deck caught fire on Baker Court in Benicia Monday evening around 9:45 p.m. Dispatch received multiple calls reporting a fire to the rear of a house, according to the Benicia Fire Department.

Fire units arrived on scene to find an exterior redwood deck burning with the homeowner and neighbors attempting to extinguish the flames with a garden hose.  Benicia Engine 12, the first arriving company, placed a hose line into operation to complete extinguishment.  Benicia Engine 11 and E211 controlled the utilities and checked the house for fire extension.  Vallejo Engine 24 was diverted to citywide coverage.  There were no injuries reported. 

The fire was declared under control at approximately 10:00 PM.  The fire caused minor smoke and heat damage to the exterior of the structure.  The fire appears to have originated on or near the redwood deck.  The cause is under investigation.
