Eastbound 780 Closed by Fatal Crash

The accident was first reported around 5:30 a.m.

All lanes of eastbound Interstate Highway 780 in Benicia are closed after a fatal collision this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The two-car collision was first reported at 5:37 a.m. at the Military West off-ramp, the CHP said. One person was found laying in the fast lane.

That person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Sig-alert was issued around 6:05 a.m. Eastbound Highway 780 is closed at Columbus Parkway.

There is no estimate when the lanes will reopen, but CHP believes the investigation will take some time.

As of 6:25 a.m., cars were using the right hand side of the road to pass, but CHP is advising drivers to use alternate routes.
