Fire Crews Battle 5-Alarm Fire In Downtown Fairfield

A large commercial buildings is fully engulfed in flames, but fire crews have surrounded it and are extinguishing the blaze.

Fire crews are battling what county fire officials called out as a 5-alarm blaze at a building near Fairfield's Civic Center tonight that was first reported around 7:55 p.m.

The fire is at a commercial building in the 700 block of Empire Street, according to an employee at a nearby coffee shop.

The employee said transformers were affected, causing power outages at the Starbucks where she works.

Initial reports said there was also a fire on Travis Boulevard, but the report was false.
