Holiday Reminder: Fireworks Banned in Benicia

Fire officials urge residents not to bring fireworks sold elsewhere back to town.

Benicia Fire Department officials are reminding residents that all, legal and illegal,  fireworks are banned within the city limits -- year-round and especially on the 4th of July. 

"Dangerous fireworks" and "safe and sane fireworks," are banned in the city, according to a recently released statement from the fire department. "ALL fireworks are banned in the City of Benicia year-round," officials reiterated in the statement.  

In addition, officials urged residents visiting communities where "safe and sane fireworks" not bring them to Benicia. 

For Benicians planning to visit out of town family and friends where safe and sane fireworks are legal, fire officials released these tips: 

  • Always read the directions
  • Always have an adult present
  • Use fireworks outside only
  • Never use fireworks near dry grass or other flammable materials
  • Light fireworks one at a time and keep a safe distance
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person
  • Never experiment with fireworks
  • Have a bucket of water and a hose handy
  • Never attempt to re-light or "fix" fireworks
  • Do not wear loose fitting clothing while lighting fireworks
  • Never carry fireworks in your pockets
  • Fireworks are not toys
  • Use only State Fire Marshal approved fireworks
