A man accused of sexually assaulting and killing a 13-year-old Suisun City girl pleaded not guilty to murder in a Fairfield courtroom today.

Anthony Lemar Jones, 32, is charged with murder with several special circumstances, including that the murder was committed during a kidnapping and a rape.

Prosecutors have said they intend to pursue capital punishment in the case, and the special-circumstance allegations make Jones eligible for the death penalty if he is convicted.

The body of his alleged victim, Genelle Conway-Allen, was found unclothed in a parking lot at Allan Witt Park in Fairfield at about 6:45 a.m. on Feb. 1.

Jones was arrested for the killing a week later in the 1100 block of East Tabor Avenue in Fairfield, and is being held without bail in Solano County Jail.

Genelle was in foster care at the time of her death. A graveside memorial service for her is planned this afternoon in Benicia.

The homeless man who found her body, Eric May, attended today's court hearing.

"I really want to see that Genelle gets justice," he said.

After the hearing, he showed reporters a silver bracelet he was wearing on which he had gotten Genelle's name engraved.

"I'm really shaken by this," he said, as he appeared to tremble.

He said he does not plan to attend Genelle's memorial because he fears he would be overwhelmed by it.

Kevin Gaye, 25, of Fairfield, a customer at a barber shop where Jones worked briefly about a year ago, was also at today's hearing.

He said he didn't know Jones well but used to say hello to him when he would get his hair cut.

Jones will next appear in court on Feb. 27, when future hearings will be scheduled.

Yes. I share your feelings. Be warned, you'll probably awaken the "Panther of Poetry" with such strong sentiments. He'll likely have a racial justification to this sick crime.

Well, you know some are going to bring race into this. I guess if genelle (RIP) Had gotten raped and murdered by a white man that would make it better. Any person REGARDLESS OF RACE who preys on a innocent child deserves to be punished to the fullest extent.
