UPDATE 3:30 PM

Power has been restored to all but 660 of the 3,600 customers who lost their electricity in Benicia this morning, a PG&E spokeswoman said.

There was no immediate estimate for when the power will be restored to the remaining customers, PG&E spokeswoman Brandi Ehlers said.

The outage was caused by the failure of an underground cable, Ehlers said.

The areas near West L Street, Church Street and Southampton Road were affected by the outage, Ehlers said.

Some schools in the area were also affected, she said.

Uhhhh...I reported this outage to PG & E at 3:05 AM. that's exactly when it went out this morning.

For us, it was out at 4:30 am. It was restored and now its out again. (10:45 am.) Does anyone know what's causing it? I checked the PG&E page, but very little info.

My freezer & fridge haven't had power since three AM. Getting very annoyed imagining all my food going bad soon. I talked to P G & E, they seem fairly clue-free as to cause of outage.

If you lose food due to loss of electricity and thawing of frozen food, you can file a claim with PG&E. From looking at http://www.pge.com/myhome/customerservice/outages/ there may have been more than one outage with the last one starting at 10:36 . Currently there are 3428 PG&E customers in Benicia with no power. There is no estimated time of restoration yet as of 11:19 .

No problem at all up at my house. Move to a nicer neighborhood.

Thank you Marnix...that's way more useful than info. I've been fed by P G & E. I will do that, I appreciate your help.

@ Danny: Aww, aren't you cute and smug! Last time I checked, electricity does not discriminate. Perhaps you can learn a lesson from that...
Karen LaRiviere December 06, 2013 at 03:20 PM
Linda, just ignore Danny, but if you have no power, you probably have no heat so I've been told that if you don't open your freezer, it can retain the cold for a surprisingly long time - especially when it's 36 outside!! Good luck, the kids at the high school are freezing in the dark. Not sure about BMS and Farmar.

Looks like there are less Benicia PG&E customers out of service now, but strange how the outages are more numerous. From the PG&E web site re Benicia outages: 5 outage(s) affecting 565 customer(s) Cause: PG&E will be assessing the cause of your outage. Status: Awaiting assessment Start Time of Outage: 12/06/2013 12:25:50 PM Est. Time of Restoration: Not Available Last Updated: 12/06/2013 12:25:53 PM Maybe they're getting one problem fixed and multiple new ones appear? We had no outage here today on Banbury Way. But a few years ago, before PG&E did a major transformer upgrade, we used to have several outages per year.
